Takashi Amano was more than an aquascaper, more than THE aquascaper. He was a visionary, a great photographer, an aesthete, a warner and a preserver.
He has not only revolutionarized the aquarium hobby, has not only altered our view of planted tanks for all times, even more: he has inspired a whole new generation of aquarium hobbyists, and he has shared his visions with us. Without him, shrimp would not have started their victory march through aquaria in all the world, and aquarium plants would still be something for specialists. His creativity and his work cannot be overestimated.
Now, with only 61 years, pneumonia has taken his life. With his family and his company, the entire aquarium world is in grief.
We bow before a great work, a great life. Rest in peace, Takashi Amano!
